The Local Markethouse isn’t meant to replace every way you buy food - although, for many, it eventually becomes their main grocery source.
It’s designed to be flexible.
You can shop here every week.
You can shop once in a while.
You can come for one thing and ignore the rest.
This Might Be for You If…
This tends to be a great fit if you like the idea of food that’s:
- Grown or made by people you can actually know
- Rooted in what’s in season here, in North Texas
-
Available through a simple weekly rhythm (order ahead > harvest/prep > pickup or delivery)
It also works well if you want flexibility in how you use us:
- Order full weekly groceries
- Subscribe to staples like milk, eggs or bread
- Stock up on meat once a quarter
- Swing by for a single item they care deeply about
If all you want is raw (or lightly pasteurized) milk - great.
If you want to fill the freezer with pastured raised whole or half cow twice a year, we’re here for that too.
If you want both - even better.
You don’t have to go all-in to belong here.
This Might Not Be for You If…
And this part matters, because clarity helps everyone.
This might not be the right fit if:
-
You expect the same produce year-round
- We’ll always have food across all major food groups
- But what’s available changes with the seasons
- You might not see strawberries in September, but pears will be in their moment
-
You shop strictly by lowest possible price
- Sometimes our prices are lower, especially when food is abundant or bought in bulk
- Sometimes they’re higher - and that’s intentional
- (for example) fresh sourdough made by local hands, with quality flour, should cost more than factory bread with 30+ ingredients that somehow never molds
-
You need food immediately, with no planning
- Our model does require ordering ahead
- That said, we do allow add-ons at pickup on Thursdays and Fridays
- You’re always welcome to pop by and grab something fresh in the moment during those times
None of this is meant to push you away, just make sure expectations match reality.
A Note on Price (This question comes up a lot)
We don’t aim to be the cheapest option, and we don’t aim to be luxury for luxury’s sake.
We aim to price food fairly:
- Fair for partners
- Fair for households who care about quality
- Transparent, without hidden fees or artificial discounts
If you’re interested in bulk purchasing - like a ½ or whole cow- those options are significantly more cost-effective over time.
If that’s something you’re curious about, email howdy@localmarkethouse.com and we’ll walk you through it.
