FAQ

What is The Local Markethouse?

Think of us as your friendly neighborhood farmer’s market you can order from online - connecting Flower Mound & surrounding areas to truly local (think: DFW) farmers, ranchers, bakers and seasonal food. You shop online; they harvest or bake fresh; you pick up or get delivery.

How does it work?

Simple:

  • Shop online by Sunday night (11:59pm)
  • Farmers harvest or bake fresh during the week
  • Choose Thursday or Friday slots for pickup or delivery

Order as often, or as rarely, as you like. We appreciate your support!

Do I need a subscription to shop?

Nope. Subscriptions are never required. You can order once a week, once a month, once a year - or just when the fridge is feeling a little empty.

Subscriptions are an optional way to:

  • Save 5% on items you buy often
  • Create an easy weekly rhythm
  • Help farmers plan with more predictable demand

Think of them as a helpful habit, not a commitment.

Note: some of our products are in high demand year-round, and especially limited during certain times of the year. When supply runs low, subscriptions are always filled first.

Other Frequently asked questions

Food at The Local Markethouse

Where does the food come from?

The most important question! From farms and producers right here in North Texas (and nearby), mostly within about 100 miles. Occasionally we go closer to the USDA’s definition of location (400 mile radius) for items not produced in DFW, like wheat berries for flour.

Is this a CSA?

Not a traditional one. We’re CSA-inspired, rooted in seasonality, trust and farmer support… but built for modern life with flexibility and choice.

Is everything organic?

Not everything is certified organic, but everything is intentionally grown or made. Many small farms follow organic or regenerative practices without pursuing certification due to cost and complexity. We know our farmers personally and partner only with those aligned with our values.

You can find information on any of our partners under the Partner Page on our site, including their growing philosophies and practices, background and more.

How is food kept fresh and safe?

Commercial freezers, fridges, and ventilated shelving. For transportation we use a combination of freezers, fridges, and electric coolers in a transport van so all items are kept at optimal temperatures.

Who is The Local Markethouse for?

Anyone who eats and cares, even a little, about where their food comes from. Perfect for families, curious cooks, and folks tired of faceless grocery systems and sneaky fees.

Who might this NOT be for?

If you’re looking for strawberries in December, unlimited choice every week, or rock-bottom pricing, this may not be the right fit, and that’s okay!

Are ingredients and allergens listed?

Each product page includes as many details as possible, often including ingredient labels as provided by our farmers and producers.

If you have a specific allergy or concern, we always recommend reaching out directly before ordering. We’re more than happy to track down any information you need to feel comfortable and safe.

Orders

How does the weekly ordering work?

Simple:

  • Shop online by Sunday night (11:59pm)
  • Farmers harvest or bake fresh during the week
  • Choose Thursday or Friday slots for pickup or delivery

Order as often, or as rarely, as you like. We appreciate your support!

Do I need to create an account to shop?

Yes. It takes about a minute and helps keep everything organized and accurate for you.

Can I edit or cancel my order?

Before the Sunday cutoff, yes you can cancel any order you placed. After Sunday we are unable to cancel orders - but email us at howdy@localmarkethouse.com, let us know what happened, and we’ll figure something out!

When do I get charged?

When your order is placed you are charged real-time. If you set a subscription up, you will be charged recurring on that day each week. For example if you subscribe to eggs weekly and place your original order on a Saturday, the charge will incur each Saturday unless you cancel or skip (which you can do at any time, no penalty).

What happens if something I ordered isn’t available?

This shouldn’t happen, but because everything is grown or made fresh, occasional changes could happen.

If an item becomes unavailable:

  • You’ll be refunded automatically, or
  • We may reach out if a very similar replacement is available

We never substitute without your consent.

What if something isn’t right with my order?

We stand behind the food and the farmers. If something feels off, damaged, or not up to standard please email us at howdy@localmarkethouse.com within 48 hours and we’ll make it right.

Everything is grown and made by real people, not factories, but that doesn’ t mean you should ever feel stuck with something you’re not happy with.

Why do some items sell out or disappear week to week?

We follow seasons, not supply chains. Availability depends on weather, harvest timing, and what farmers have ready that week.

When it’s gone, it’s gone, and often back again soon.

Can I get bulk orders?

You bet. We can offer bulk orders or items like wheat/flour, meats (think ¼, ½, whole cow), and a lot more. If you have your eye on something, shoot us an email at howdy@localmarkethouse.com

Do you run sales or offer discounts?

Not really, and that’s intentional. We price food fairly year-round, avoid artificial markups, and focus on paying farmers well instead of running constant promotions.

Why are credit card fees passed back?

To keep prices as low as possible and give a high level of transparency.

Do you accept SNAP/EBT?

We’re currently in the process of applying and hope to offer it soon.

Our goal is to make locally grown, thoughtfully produced food accessible to as many families as possible. We’ll share updates as soon as possible.

What time will my delivery arrive?

During checkout you will have the option of a Thursday or Friday delivery. The deliveries will occur during the daytime hours, in between our morning and even pickup slots.

What happens if I miss my pickup?

Life happens, we get it.

  • Perishable items are donated to a local food bank quickly.
  • Shelf-stable items will be held for your next pickup when possible, but storage space is limited and not guaranteed.

Anything we can’t store is also donated. This helps reduce food waste and keeps things fair for farmers and members alike.

What if I’m running late to pickup?

Please arrive within the posted pickup window. If something unexpected comes up, reach out (howdy@localmarkethouse.com), and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Once the last pickup window has passed we will follow our donation policy.

Can someone else pick up my order?

You bet! Just make sure they know the name on the order.

Do I need to bring bags or a cooler?

Highly recommended. We recommend bringing reusable bags and cold storage, especially for meat, dairy, and summer months.

What if it’s hot, cold, or raining?

Pickup happens rain or shine. We handle food carefully and keep cold items properly stored until pickup.

Subscriptions

Do I need a subscription to shop?

Nope. Subscriptions are never required. You can order once a week, once a month, once a year - or just when the fridge is feeling a little empty.

Subscriptions are an optional way to:

  • Save 5% on items you buy often
  • Create an easy weekly rhythm
  • Help farmers plan with more predictable demand

Think of them as a helpful habit, not a commitment.

Note: some of our products are in high demand year-round, and especially limited during certain times of the year. When supply runs low, subscriptions are always filled first.

How do I manage my subscription?

You’re always in control. Subscriptions can be paused, skipped, edited or cancelled anytime inside your account.

Most people subscribe to a few staples and adjust as seasons change. Subscriptions are a flexible support to your weekly rhythm.

How often do subscriptions run?

Subscriptions are set up on a weekly rhythm and process at the same Sunday night cutoff as one-time orders.

If you don’t need something for one week, just skip it inside your account before Sunday night. The weekly timeframe is meant to provide you with as fresh of product as possible - harvested, baked, or made just days or sometimes hours before delivery.

Can I mix subscriptions and one-time orders?

Absolutely. Many people subscribe to staples (think: eggs, milk) and add one-off items each week based on what looks good. You save 5% on any items you have on a weekly subscription.

What if a subscribed item isn’t available?

If a subscribed item isn’t available one week, it simply won’t be added to your order (and you won’t be charged). Your subscription continues when the item returns.

You will get an email each week after your order is placed at midnight, so you’ll be alerted to what items you are charged for.

For all other inquiries, please email howdy@localmarkethouse.com!
