Origin Story & Identity
Small beginnings with only lotion bars/sticks and lip balms in 2023: finding lotion that didn’t have the “key ingredients” at the bottom of the list on the label became difficult. Water is the main ingredient in liquid lotions. Once I discovered natural lotion bars and tried one, I set out to make my own. One thing led to another and the rest is history, with the expansion of other “clean” skincare items that became personal necessities. Travel-friendly (or at least recyclable) options became a desire when staying/vacationing elsewhere. Eco-friendly is the hope for seeing cleaner coastlines and less non-compostable waste. Some product containers are just great for reusing though too.
The first lotion bars/sticks were developed completely wax-free!
My husband came up with the Apothestix name, based on the combination of “apothecary” and living in the “sticks” in an area under constant development. Lotion bars in push-up tubes made for a great play-on-word for “stix” as well.
Personality quirk: almost constantly searching for ways to improve formulas and experimenting.

Philosophy & Practices
pH balancing. It’s gotta work or it can’t be used.
Keeping ingredients as close to natural and ‘clean’ as possible without compromising, while also utilizing environmentally sustainable ingredients.
Searching for effective natural preservatives has been part of this difficulty.
Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work
To my own shock and awe: problem-solving and experimenting in the kitchen with naturally derived chemicals in order to develop something that works for people…not just for myself. (No, I have not exploded anything in the kitchen up to this point and don’t intend to.)
Receiving positive feedback from a customer.
(Since good recipes are exclusively hard work, I will emphasize the tips here below.)
Solid conditioner bars multi-task as either shave cream bars or you can just slide across wet skin for some extra softness.
Most heat-sensitive solid products still work quite well once they’ve cooled back down to solids; the cardboard containers are surprisingly quite resilient despite appearance.
It would be very nice to see the popularity of these products continue to grow each year, with the desire for natural based and naturally derived products that work well for customers and that customers will reap healthy benefits from.
What has started out as a simple side-hustle could become more in the future with increased demand. Having a dedicated kitchen would be nice at that point! In the meantime, I’m very happy with the current product line and am very open to developing other products as the need arises or opportunities open up to do so.
