Origin Story & Identity
Peanut Butter Passport is the marriage of two loves: travel & peanut butter
When deprived of my favorite food (HEB’s freshly ground honey-roasted peanut butter) after I moved from Texas to Chicago to pursue my first job out of college, I began making my peanut butter in my apartment for the first time. It was simple at first… peanuts, honey, and salt, but it wasn’t until I was on a three-week backpacking trip through Europe that I discovered peanut butter could be more than a kitchen commodity. My final stop on the trip was Utrecht, Netherlands to visit a Dutch friend whom I met on the backing circuit the year before. He knew I loved peanut butter, so he surprised me with a visit to a specialty peanut butter store. It was out of a movie… along a canal, lined with cobblestone streets, corner store, big windows… and filled with OVER TWENTY different flavors of peanut butter!! I was a kid in a candy shop.
I had a lot of time to think and reminisce on my flight home. I had always wanted to start my own business, and I had not seen gourmet peanut butter in the US before, so I thought this may be my chance. I wanted to put a personal spin on it to make it my own, so I decided to combine it with another love that has so profoundly impacted my live… my love discovering new people, places, and food through travel. And that is how Peanut Butter Passport was born and I started crafting my own peanut butter!
Our ingredients follow the same path I did: see the world, then come home to Texas.
I grew up in a small town outside of Houston, spread my wings after college, living across several states and traveling to almost 24 countries, and eventually found my way back to the place that shaped me. Peanut Butter Passport follows the same story.
Each of our flavors is inspired by a real place in the world: the stroopwafel stands of Amsterdam, the cacao aromas of Oaxaca, the coffee culture of Addis Ababa. But when it comes time to actually make them, we source as close to home as possible. The majority of our ingredients, including our peanuts, honey, and stroopwafels, come from Texas and the greater DFW area.
We make gourmet peanut butter, Each of our flavors are inspired by ingredients from different countries, crafted in small batches right here in Texas.
When selecting suppliers, we look beyond quality (that’s a given). We look for suppliers who are passionate about their craft, have a tie to Texas, and have a story to tell. A few examples:
Our Peanuts: Texas Roasting Company, Seminole, TX – Every flavor starts with the same foundation: fresh-roasted Spanish peanuts sourced from Texas Roasting Company, who works directly with local Texas farmers. They dry-roast our peanuts to order, and we time our production runs around each batch to lock in that fresh-roasted flavor in every jar.
Texas Honey: Sabine Creek Honey Farm, Royce City, TX – Our raw, unfiltered honey comes from John and his son Skip, who have been raising bees for over 30 years. John has served as President of the Texas Beekeepers Association and fair warning, if you ever go to pick up an order, he will absolutely talk your ear off (in the best way possible).
Dutch Stroopwafel: The Stroop Club, Austin, TX – The stroopwafels we dice and fold into our Amsterdam-inspired flavor come from Chantal, a Dutch immigrant who fonuded The Stroop Club when she and her husband moved to the US and could not find any stroopwafles that were up to her Dutch standards.
Oaxacan Chocolate: Blue Green Organics, Fort Worth, TX – Sourcing authentic cacao powder and agave in Texas is a challenge, but we found a win closer to home than expected. Our Raw Blue Organic Agave supplier operates their only US warehouse right here in Fort Worth.
Ethiopian Espresso: Eiland Coffee, Richardson, TX – Our single-origin Ethiopian espresso beans come from Eiland Coffee, a local roaster who roasts our beans to order on a 1969 Probat cast iron roaster, a machine legendary among coffee professionals for the way it develops sweetness, body, and balance in the cup.
Our Dutch Stroopwafel flavor. It’s the most unique, pays homage to the city by which Peanut Butter Passport was inspired, and in my opinion, the tastiest.

Philosophy & Practices
Texas sourced, clean ingredients, produced in small batches to make peanut butter so good you’ll eat it by the spoonful.
Most of our suppliers are based in Texas, and we produce every jar here as well. We only use all natural sweeteners – raw honey, organic agave, and salted caramel – and we keep every ingredient list short, clean, and pronounceable. No preservatives, no shortcuts.
Roasted peanuts are a lot like coffee… the closer to the roast date, the better. We take that seriously on both counts. Our peanut supplier and our coffee roaster both roast to order for us, and we time our production runs around each fresh batch to make sure that flavor gets locked into every jar before it ever hits a shelf.
Cost. Using quality, locally sourced ingredients and producing in small batches means our production costs are significantly higher than mass-market competition. But to us, the trade-off is worth it.
Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work
Tasting new flavors and each batch as it comes out of the mixer.
Peanut butter cup pie! It was the star of our Thanksgiving dinner!
New flavors and countries! We’re thinking of rolling out a spicy peanut butter flavor as well as using different bases (think pistachio) in the near future.
