Pinky's Peak Provisions

Real food for real dogs.

Origin Story & Identity

I have had dogs all of my life; I have either found them or they have found me! I have always taken in rescues and strays and many have come with health challenges. I realized decades ago that many health issues can be treated, cured and managed through diet, much like humans. When Pinky and I found each other, she had many conditions; red, itchy skin, bald patches, bad breath, weepy eyes, digestive concerns.

My vet is not only a conventional practitioner but also focuses on holistic care and diet. He told me that all of her issues could be healed by diet, but I would need to start cooking her food myself…with real food and supplements. He taught me how to do this by educating me on what ingredients are the best to use for optimal health. I started to prepare Pinky’s meals at home. After just one month, I saw a remarkable difference in her condition. After 3 months, all those issues had vanished and she was a healthy, energetic pup! I then looked into making healthy, nutritious treats with ingredients that were beneficial, not just a tasty morsel. That was over 20 years ago. Once I started making food and treats for her, friends and family asked me to make products for their fur babies. Once I saw that my food was helping them so much, I decided to begin selling my products. That was 10 years ago. I now have 22 items that will nourish, satisfy and bring well-being to everyone’s pups.

Special Certifications & Licensing: Texas Commercial Feed License and the additional licensing for each product that I make.

Fun Fact:

I want all my dog “customers” to get to know me at the markets. They are all welcome to come under the table to sniff and love on me! Then they can sniff out the products that appeal to them most.

Philosophy & Practices

I don’t use any ingredients that you could not eat yourself. If I won’t eat it myself, then I won’t feed it to my dog!

I like to cook and shop local for my food. I do not eat fast food or processed food. I believe this is the basis for good health. The same holds true for what I prepare for my dogs. And yours.

What’s something folks should know about making pet treats that they often don’t? What type of approvals are needed from a compliance perspective?

Most people do not realize that the process of making “legal” dog treats is quite extensive and expensive. You must first apply for a Texas Commercial Feed License from the Office of the Texas State Chemist.

You then must submit each of your products for nutritional analysis at an independent laboratory. This information must then be translated onto labeling according to the format specified by the State Chemist. You then submit the labeling and an application to this office for approval. Once the product is approved, you must then pay an annual fee for each product per year to sell each one.

What’s the biggest challenge of making treats the way you do?

Getting people to understand the importance of feeding their dogs a real food diet. So much commercially produced dog food is made from by-products, processed at high heat which destroys nutrition, has added fillers for bulk, and often comes from countries which do not adhere to our standards.

Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work

What’s your favorite part of the work you do every day?

My favorite part is when someone new tries my products and then returns the following week to tell me how much their dog loves it! And then when certain issues such as digestion, itchiness, skin, coat and joint issues improve…. that makes me beam!

What are you excited to grow, offer, or dream up for the future of Pinky’s?

I am always looking for new healthy ingredients to incorporate into exciting new flavors. I am now looking into longer lasting chews for those pups who can’t chew enough!
