Red River Valley Mushrooms

Locally grown specialty mushrooms for the DFW community, cultivated with precision, care, and a zero-waste mindset.

Origin Story & Identity

We got into mushroom farming once Covid started back in 2020. When everything shut down we decided to start building our farm. Not knowing when or what is going to happen it eventually worked out and 5 years later we are growing mushrooms for the DFW community to enjoy in their homes.

We are all GAP certified and are currently working on getting MGAP audited and becoming organic certified!

Fun Fact:

Lion’s Mane has exploded as a brain boosting supplement, but most people haven’t seen the real thing. We always get “Is that cauliflower?”. As good at it is as a supplement we also wanted people to experience the taste of Lion’s Mane. Known as the “seafood of the forest” because its flavor and texture is similar to crab or lobster its one of the most proudest mushrooms we grow.

What do you grow/produce?

We grow a variety of different mushrooms like Blue Oyster, Lion’s Mane, Shiitake and More!

What are you most proud of producing?

Philosophy & Practices

Everything we do is built on precision. From maintaining a sterile environment for inoculation to opening our grow bags at the perfect time for our customers and even recycling our spent compost back into the earth. We ensure that nothing goes to waste and that every mushroom is grown with absolute care.

What’s something about your practices (soil care, animal care, sustainability, etc.) that most people don’t know, but should?

One thing people should know is that mushrooms compost is some of the best compost to grow on. Its filled with nutrients and plants love growing on it. Its a perfect cycle that creates zero waste!

What’s the biggest challenge of growing food the way you do?

The biggest challenge is that all of the different mushrooms like slightly different environments in our grow rooms so we try to maintain the best environments for each different mushroom.

Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work

What’s your favorite part of the work you do every day?

The favorite part of our day to day is going into our grow rooms and seeing the mushrooms starting off just as small little “pins” and then day by day them doubling in size until they are ready to harvest.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy something you grow/produce?

Mushrooms have a ton of versatility in all of the dishes that you can cook up. With all the different flavor profiles and the textures of all the different mushrooms, they can be used in so many ways.

What are you excited to grow, offer, or dream up for the future of your farm?

We are excited to offer our custom "Eco Box,” in the future which allows you to grow fresh mushrooms at home and have them ready to harvest in just 7 to 10 days. We noticed that many incredible mushroom species no matter how delicious or unique are often overlooked by commercial farms due to their short shelf life or lower market demand. We wanted to change that by making these rare varieties accessible to everyone.
