Sapling Farms

USDA Organic produce grown in Sanger by a family farm bringing unique, seasonal vegetables to the DFW community.

Origin Story & Identity

Sapling Farms is a family-run farm located in Sanger, Texas, with deep roots in growing food for health, family, and community. The farm’s story began with a love of growing that traces back to the founder’s childhood on a farm in India, where she watched her parents grow a wide variety of crops and learned the basics of farming early on. After moving to America in the 1990s, that love of growing started again with a few plants on an apartment balcony, then expanded into a backyard garden, and eventually became more produce than one family could use. Friends and neighbors encouraged her to turn that passion into a profession, and Sapling Farms grew from there. Today, Sapling Farms grows locally in Sanger and serves families across the DFW area through farmers markets, CSA options, and local partnerships.

Sapling Farms is now certified USDA Organic by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Fun Fact:

Sapling Farms is known for growing more than just the standard Texas produce lineup. In addition to seasonal favorites, they grow unique Indian and Asian vegetables that help customers discover new flavors, ingredients, and ways to cook fresh, local produce.

Philosophy & Practices

Sapling Farms focuses on growing fresh produce locally using organic principles and making healthy eating more accessible to families and communities across the DFW Metroplex. Their philosophy is rooted in growing food that supports health, connection, and community — while helping people think more intentionally about what they put in their bodies.

What’s something about your practices (soil care, animal care, sustainability, etc.) that most people don’t know — but should?

Sapling Farms grows with organic principles and is now USDA Organic certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Their produce changes week to week based on the season and what is being harvested, which means customers are getting food that reflects the actual rhythm of the farm instead of a fixed grocery-store-style inventory.

What’s the biggest challenge of growing/making food the way you do?

Organic farming in Texas comes with real challenges, from extreme weather to pest pressure and the difficulty of growing year-round. Sapling Farms has shared that controlling pests, especially during grasshopper season, has been one of the hardest parts of organic farming. Finding good land, farm help, and the right growing conditions has also been part of the journey.

Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work

What’s your favorite part of the work you do every day?

Sapling Farms began from a personal love of growing food for health and family, and that still shows in the way the farm connects with customers. One of the most meaningful parts of the work is helping local families access fresh, organic produce and introducing the community to vegetables they may not have tried before.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy something you grow/make?

Sapling Farms produce is perfect for simple, seasonal cooking. Their greens, herbs, squash, peppers, gourds, and specialty vegetables can be used in quick sautés, soups, curries, salads, roasted vegetable bowls, stir-fries, and easy weeknight sides. For unique Indian and Asian vegetables, a simple sauté with oil, garlic, salt, and spices is often the best way to let the produce shine.

What are you excited to grow, offer, or dream up for the future?

We are excited to make Sapling Farms more accessible through The Local Markethouse so customers can add their organic produce into a regular grocery rhythm. Their farm is a natural fit for seasonal produce features, CSA-style inspiration, cooking education, unique vegetable spotlights, and simple recipe ideas that help families feel more confident using fresh, local ingredients.
