Origin Story & Identity
Nearly 20 years ago, in January of 2007, I decided I would start making prettier cakes for my kids’ birthdays, after a blobby disaster of a 1st birthday cake for my middle kiddo. Since then, my little bakery has evolved into a way to feed my severe allergy family, which began with a yellow dye allergy in the same kiddo.
I personally have a dozen food allergies, but my daughter has a more severe corn allergy in her list. That means I make all of her food from scratch and grow around 90% of her vegetables, plus source spray free fruits in large amounts. I purchased a freeze dryer 5 years ago so she could have convience foods: freeze dried safe fruits! This has been such a wonderful addition to her diet! I added freeze dried fruits to my menu to fund her stockpile, and they have been so popular!
I have my food handlers certificate and have taken a cake class from my cake decorator mama 20 years ago!Do you have any certifications or special licensing?
I'm very glittery and pink! When I set up somewhere, I'm “the pink booth”. It's my absolute favorite color, and I always have Hello Kitty cookies to bring a smile to my other pinky friends!
I offer sweet breads like my luscious double dark chocolate banana bread, decorated cookies in super cute themes like teeny Spiderman heads or tiny pies at Thanksgiving, and freeze dried fruits. I also have activity kits: DIY cookie kits and paint your own cookies. I make allergy friendly sprinkles when I can squeeze them in and homemade extracts for the holidays!
All of my goods use local, organic ingredients where I'm able to, and everything is always dye free and nut free! Some of my treats are vegan as well. I'm very transparent with my ingredients and am happy to answer any questions.
It took me about a year of back and forth testing before I was able to add a paint your own cookie with a dye free cookie palette I was proud of. It was the last item I had with dyes on my menu before I could be completely dye free! Now I have a great product that people love and I can feel good about serving.
Philosophy & Practices
It is very important to me to use the simplest ingredients but also have a beautiful, tasty treat that's affordable. I am always looking for ways to improve and will sometimes put a little twist on an older recipe to keep it fresh. Helping people who may not have a lot of fun food options because of allergies is super important to me too.
I source fruits that are beyond organic, completely spray free, a lot of the time. When fruit season slows down, I supplement with organic fruits that are not local, but I do as much local as I can keep up with!
I make all of my own extracts, baking powder, brown sugar, and even some of my own sprinkles in my DIY cookie kits! If I can make it from scratch, I do!
Time! I wish there was an extra Lizzie to just constantly be growing and slicing fruits to freeze dry!
Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work
I love teaching. I have taught my kiddos to bake and have lead dozens of cookie and baking classes!
I love to use my freeze dried fruits in my oatmeal or to color my buttercream!
I can't wait until Halloween for all of the fun cookies!
