Earthy, savory, fresh-picked mushroom goodness, all in one beautiful box.

This 1 lb fresh mushroom mix from Red River Valley Mushrooms features a seasonal blend of blue oyster and shiitake mushrooms, grown with precision and care for the DFW community. Blue oysters bring that tender, almost velvety bite with a mild, savory flavor, while shiitakes add deeper umami and a richer, meatier texture.

Together, they’re the kind of ingredient that makes a weeknight dinner feel like you suddenly know what you’re doing.

What makes them special

Red River Valley Mushrooms was started in 2020, when Alex and the team began building their farm during the early days of Covid. Five years later, they’re growing fresh mushrooms for families across DFW to enjoy at home. Their farm grows varieties like blue oyster, lion’s mane, shiitake, and more, with each mushroom variety managed for its own ideal growing environment.

Their process is rooted in precision: from maintaining a sterile environment for inoculation to opening grow bags at the right moment and recycling spent mushroom compost back into the earth. As Alex shared, their spent compost helps create a zero-waste cycle and is full of nutrients plants love.

How we love to use them

Sauté them hot and fast in butter or olive oil until golden, then finish with salt, garlic, herbs, or a splash of cream. Toss them into pasta, fold them into eggs, pile them over toast, stir into risotto, add to ramen, tuck into tacos, or serve alongside steak, chicken, or pork.

They’re also incredible with Circle N cream, green onions, and leafy greens for a quick creamy mushroom skillet.

Storage + prep

Keep mushrooms refrigerated in their original box or a breathable paper bag. For best texture, avoid washing until right before cooking, and when you do, wipe or rinse quickly and pat dry.

Cook them with enough heat and space so they brown instead of steam. That’s where the magic happens.

From the grower

Red River Valley Mushrooms is GAP certified and currently working toward MGAP audit and organic certification. Alex is also excited to keep educating the community through recipes, farm insights, and videos showing how mushrooms are grown day to day.
