Details

Earthy, savory, fresh-picked mushroom goodness, all in one beautiful box.

This Lion’s Mane Mushroom Grow Kit from Red River Valley Mushrooms makes it easy to grow gourmet mushrooms right at home. Each kit comes with a pre-inoculated mushroom block, a spray mister bottle, and step-by-step instructions, so all you have to do is open, mist, and watch those fluffy Lion’s Mane clusters come to life.

Lion’s Mane is known for its soft, shaggy texture and rich, savory flavor. Once harvested, it cooks beautifully into golden, tender pieces with a hearty bite that feels a little fancy without asking too much from your weeknight dinner plans.

What makes it special

Red River Valley Mushrooms was started in 2020, when Alex and the team began building their farm during the early days of Covid. Five years later, they’re growing fresh mushrooms for families across DFW to enjoy at home. Their farm grows varieties like blue oyster, lion’s mane, shiitake, and more, with each mushroom variety managed for its own ideal growing environment.

Their process is rooted in precision: from maintaining a sterile environment for inoculation to opening grow bags at the right moment and recycling spent mushroom compost back into the earth. As Alex shared, their spent compost helps create a zero-waste cycle and is full of nutrients plants love.

This grow kit brings that same care into your kitchen, giving you a simple, hands-on way to experience how mushrooms grow from start to harvest.

How to grow

Place your kit in indirect sunlight, like on a kitchen counter. On day one, open the cardboard window and use a clean knife to cut a small “X” into the grow bag. Mist the opening with 5–6 sprays from the included spray bottle.

From there, mist 2–3 times a day to keep the block humid. Within several days, you’ll start to see little mushroom pins appear. Around days 12–14, your Lion’s Mane should be ready to harvest when the “teeth” are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long.

Gently pull the mushroom cluster off at the base, then keep misting to encourage a second flush in 1–2 weeks.

How we love to use them

Slice or tear Lion’s Mane into pieces, then sauté in butter or olive oil until golden and crisp on the edges. Finish with salt, garlic, herbs, or a splash of cream.

It’s amazing folded into eggs, tucked into tacos, piled over toast, stirred into pasta, added to ramen, or served alongside steak, chicken, or pork. It also makes a beautiful meatless main when cooked hot and fast until browned.

What’s in the box

Each kit includes one spray mister bottle, one pre-inoculated Lion’s Mane mushroom block, and step-by-step growing instructions.

Ingredients: hardwood sawdust, soybean hulls, water, and mushroom spawn.
