Veteran's Liberty Ranch

Grass-fed, pasture-raised meats from a veteran-honoring ranch committed to healthy animals, healthy land, and feeding local families well.

Origin Story & Identity

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch was built around a simple mission: to feed local communities like they feed their own families. The ranch is run by Michelle Smith in Rhome, Texas and Julie Green in Liberty Hill, Texas, serving both North Texas and Central Texas communities with locally raised meats. Michelle and Julie joined forces after meeting through a cattle deal, and the business grew from a local protein operation into a broader ranching partnership focused on healthy animals, healthy land, and direct relationships with local customers. The “Veteran’s” name honors military service within the family and reflects their gratitude for those who choose to serve.

Fun Fact:

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch serves both North Texas and Central Texas through two ranch locations: Michelle Smith and her family in Rhome, and Julie Green and her family in Liberty Hill. Their ranch has become known for showing up at local markets with meat trailers, strong community energy, and a mission rooted in “feeding the people.”

What do you grow, produce, and make?

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch raises and sells a wide assortment of pasture-raised and grass-fed proteins, including beef, chicken, pork, lamb, goat, turkey, and bison when available. They also offer a variety of eggs, including chicken, duck, goose, and quail eggs when available. Their products include individual cuts, ground meats, roasts, steaks, sausages, bundles, and larger shares for stocking the freezer.

What are you most proud of producing?

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch is especially proud of producing healthy, nutrient-dense meats for local families. Their grass-fed beef and pasture-raised proteins are raised with attention to animal health, land stewardship, and practical access for customers through markets, pickup locations, and online ordering. Their freezer bundles and meat shares are especially helpful for families who want to build a better local protein routine at home.

Philosophy & Practices

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch focuses on raising healthy, happy animals while caring for the land and feeding local communities well. Their philosophy centers on clean, nutrient-dense food, humane animal care, regenerative grazing practices, and direct relationships with the families who buy their meats.

What’s something about your practices (soil care, animal welfare, product quality, sustainability, etc.) that most people don’t know — but should?

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch uses regenerative, rotational grazing practices, moving animals across open pasture to support healthier soil, better forage, and more natural animal movement. Their meats are described as hormone- and antibiotic-free, locally raised, and grass-fed, with an emphasis on producing nutrient-dense food for local families.

What’s the biggest challenge of growing/making food the way you do?

Raising pasture-based proteins takes time, land, careful planning, and constant coordination. Animals have to be managed, moved, fed, protected, processed, stored, transported, and sold in a way that protects both quality and availability. Balancing ranch work with farmers markets, pickup locations, online orders, and customer demand across multiple communities is a major undertaking.

Daily Life & Personal Connection to the Work

What’s your favorite part of the work you do every day?

A major part of Veteran’s Liberty Ranch’s work is connecting directly with local customers. Their market and pickup model gives families the chance to ask questions, learn about different cuts, stock their freezers, and feel more connected to where their meat comes from. That direct relationship is part of what makes the ranch such a strong fit for The Local Markethouse.

What’s your favorite way to enjoy something you grow/make?

Veteran’s Liberty Ranch proteins are built for real family meals: burgers on the grill, steaks with simple salt and pepper, slow-cooked roasts, breakfast sausage with eggs, ground beef for tacos or pasta night, and freezer staples that make dinner easier. A simple place to start is with ground beef or burger patties for an easy weeknight meal, then build toward steaks, roasts, bundles, or shares as your family finds its favorites.

What are you excited to grow, offer, or dream up for the future?

We are excited to make Veteran’s Liberty Ranch more accessible through The Local Markethouse so families can add local, pasture-raised proteins into their normal grocery rhythm. Their assortment is a natural fit for freezer stocking, weekly meal planning, grilling season, family dinners, and customers who want a more direct connection to the people raising their food.
