Details
Baked fresh early Thursday morning, truly as fresh as it gets.
If you can, we highly recommend Thursday pickup or delivery. Friday will still be great.
This is, without exaggeration, our favorite bread.
It barely makes it past the counter after day one.
Baked in Weatherford, Texas by The Holmestead, this butter sourdough starts with a long-fermented sourdough base and finishes with grass-fed butter and a touch of organic cane sugar. The result is a loaf that’s soft, tender, and deeply comforting.
If you’ve ever said “I don’t really like sourdough”, this is the bread that changes minds.
What makes it different
This loaf isn’t made soft by shortcuts, it’s made soft by process. The dough is still slowly fermented, giving it better digestibility and depth of flavor, while the butter brings richness and a plush crumb that feels familiar in the best way.
No preservatives. No dough conditioners. No rushing the timeline. Just careful fermentation and thoughtful baking; the kind grocery shelves simply can’t offer.
How we love to enjoy it
-
Torn straight from the loaf and eaten standing at the counter
-
Toasted lightly with butter and honey or a slice of dark chocolate
-
Used for sandwiches, grilled cheese, or French toast
-
Classic cinnamon sugar toast
This is the loaf everyone reaches for first.
Storage & freshness tips
This loaf is naturally preservative-free, so it will change over time (that’s normal).
Enjoy fresh within 3-4 days at room temperature, stored cut-side down on a board or wrapped in a clean cloth (avoid plastic, which traps moisture).
If the loaf starts to firm up, don’t toss it. Sourdough is incredibly forgiving:
-
Revive it by lightly misting the crust with water and warming it in a 350°F oven for 5–10 minutes
-
Toast it! Slightly dried sourdough makes exceptional toast
-
Slice and freeze any extra early on; it toasts beautifully straight from the freezer
Harder sourdough is a sign to make croutons and breadcrumbs!
A gentle note on values
The Holmestead believes food should nourish and delight. This loaf reflects that belief: made with care, baked with intention, and meant to be enjoyed generously.
"We remain committed to tackling food insecurity and cultural detachment from real food, providing quality produce and educational opportunities to the DFW community with intentions to expand into other exciting areas in the future such as transitional housing, faith based care, and employment to aging out foster care women" - Allison & Josh Holmes
